When I'm deep in the woods around Haliburton, I often catch myself slowing down and looking straight up. Something is grounding about that simple shift in perspective. This photograph comes from one of those quiet winter wanderings, where the forest stood still, almost holding its breath. The tall, narrow trunks rise together like an unbroken cathedral of trees, their branches reaching toward the sky in a dense, interwoven canopy.

I remember the soft crunch of snow under my boots and that pale winter light that hangs in the air around Haliburton during the colder months. It's a light that doesn't rush in or push its way through; instead, it seeps gently across the scene, highlighting the bark's textures and the thin lacework of branches overhead. The black-and-white treatment in this image lets those textures take the lead, stripping the moment down to shape, line, and contrast.

What strikes me most about photographing forests like this is how quickly the environment can shift your focus. Instead of scanning the ground ahead, you start noticing the landscape's vertical pull. These trees stretch endlessly upward, forming an almost abstract pattern when viewed from directly below. The branches meet in the centre of the frame, drawing your eye in and holding it there. It's the kind of scene that invites you to pause, breathe, and let your mind wander a little.

This particular spot in Haliburton has become one of my go-to places to explore in winter. The forest is dense enough to feel sheltered, even on windy days, and the tall pines create a sense of continuity that carries through every season. But winter adds something special. The softer tones, the diffused light, the quiet—everything feels more honest and more elemental.

In the print, you'll see the subtle details that stood out to me in the moment: the thin frost edging the bark, the way the branches thin out as they climb higher, and the muted sky filtering through the canopy. These details give the image a sense of depth and make it a piece you can live with—one you notice differently at various times of day.

If you enjoy artwork that brings a sense of calm and natural structure into your space, this winter treetop scene offers precisely that. It's a piece built around quiet strength and the simple beauty of looking up in a moment of stillness.

Limited Edition of 10

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.

Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.

I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.

Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

Premium Archival Fine Art Prints

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.

The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.

Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.

Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide Delivery Included

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.

Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.

Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
