Weathered Farm Equipment Under a Broad Nevada Sky
An old wooden farm wagon rests among dry grass at Currie, Nevada, with a weathered barn beyond it. I photographed the scene in monochrome, keeping a generous area of cloud-filled sky above the low buildings and equipment. The open setting makes the remaining objects feel small, but their worn shapes give the view its character.
The wagon sits close enough for its boards, wheels, and upright metal edges to remain distinct. Other pieces of equipment appear farther to the left, partly held within the grass. Behind them, the barn’s pale wall and patched-looking roof provide a larger, simpler form. Low hills complete the distance without closing the landscape in.
I was interested in the relationship between what remains here and the space around it. The equipment carries the suggestion of past work, while the vegetation now grows through and around those forms. There is no need to assign a detailed history to each object to notice that change. The photograph lets their condition speak through the visible surfaces.
Monochrome draws attention to the different textures: weathered boards, fine grasses, dark wheels, and the soft edges of the clouds. It is a rural image with a strong sense of openness rather than a crowded study of machinery. For someone drawn to ghost towns, old farms, or quiet Western landscapes, it brings an unhurried view of objects left within a much larger setting.
