Ellis Island Hospital Broken Window Sepia Interior Photography
Weathered Frames Lead Toward A Small Interior Light
A broken window becomes an opening into the abandoned Ellis Island Hospital in this 2019 photograph. The nearest frame fills much of the view, with rough plaster running down its right side. Beyond it, another opening catches a small amount of light inside the dark room. I am drawn to the way these layers let the eye move from one worn surface to the next.
Thick wooden crosspieces divide the foreground window. A fragment of textured glass remains beneath the upper sash, its jagged lower edge revealing brighter light behind it. The wood carries narrow cracks, faded finish and dark marks along its corners. Below, the broad sill projects toward the viewer, adding another angle to the otherwise upright frame.
Inside the room, damaged walls and a dark floor deepen the sense of enclosure. The smaller window beyond has its own divisions, including a slatted opening that glows softly near the centre. I find that modest patch of light particularly important. It gives the photograph a destination without overpowering the foreground textures or suggesting activity in the empty room.
The sepia treatment draws the wood and plaster together in muted brown and grey tones. It leaves enough variation to separate the surfaces while keeping the mood subdued. This is a close architectural view built from openings, shadows and deterioration, rather than a sweeping record of the hospital. Its layered perspective offers a quietly absorbing print for someone interested in abandoned interiors, window studies or photographs where weathered materials carry much of the visual interest.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
