A Row of Weathered Cabins Beside an Empty Road
A row of small wooden cabins stands beside an empty road in Currie, Nevada. Their pale siding and simple pitched roofs repeat across the frame, with dry vegetation growing along the walls. I photographed them in monochrome, keeping the dark doors, worn boards, and scattered clouds clear against the open desert setting.
Each cabin has a slightly different presence. Rooflines overlap, windows sit at different positions, and the nearest building turns enough to reveal a side wall. The repetition gives the scene order, but those variations keep it from feeling like a uniform row. I was interested in the balance between familiar building shapes and the wear visible on their surfaces.
The road leaves a quiet strip of space in front of them. Behind, low hills and utility wires establish the wider landscape without adding much visual weight. Clouds occupy the upper part of the picture, their softer forms contrasting with the straight siding and roof edges. The light brings out the pale wood while leaving the doorways noticeably dark.
This is a close view of deserted architecture rather than a dramatic ruin. The cabins still have a readable, modest shape, and the photograph lets their condition speak through details. For someone drawn to Nevada ghost towns and weathered roadside buildings, it offers a restrained piece of western scenery. From across a room, the row of roofs is clear; closer looking reveals the individual boards, windows, and small differences between the cabins.
