This portrait stops me every time I look at it. There’s a weight in his expression that goes beyond a simple photograph—something earned, something lived. The lines in his face aren’t subtle. They cut deep, shaped by wind, cold, and time spent out in a landscape that doesn’t give anything away easily. His eyes carry that quiet steadiness I’ve seen in people who spend most of their lives outdoors, where survival is practical, not romantic.
I photographed this in northern Mongolia, near the edge of the Gobi Desert, during a Mongolian eagle rider expedition. We were based in a remote mountain camp, surrounded by open land that stretches endlessly in every direction. On the final day, the riders relaxed a bit. The pressure was gone, the formality dropped, and they allowed us to move in closer. That’s when this moment happened—no performance, no posing beyond a simple willingness to be seen.
What stands out immediately is the texture. The heavy fur coat frames his face in a way that feels almost sculptural, layered with coarse detail that contrasts against the softness of the blurred background. The hat, adorned with fur and feathers, carries cultural meaning and visually anchors the entire composition. It draws the eye upward before bringing it right back down into his gaze. Everything leads back to those eyes.
I chose to present this in black and white because color would have distracted from what matters here. Stripping it back allowed the textures, the expression, and the history in his face to take over completely. There’s a clarity to it—nothing hidden, nothing softened—just presence.
This is one of those images that works in a space where you want depth and character. It doesn’t sit quietly in the background. It invites a second look, then a third. It’s well-suited for offices, study spaces, or anywhere that benefits from something grounded and real—something that feels connected to a place and a way of life that still exists beyond the modern noise.
Each print is part of a limited edition of 10, personally signed by me and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. It’s produced using archival pigment inks to ensure longevity and consistency over time, holding onto every detail you see here—from the fine strands of fur to the subtle tones across his face.
This photograph was taken on location, standing just a few feet away from him, in a moment that couldn’t be recreated if I tried. That’s the difference—it’s real, it happened, and it stays with you.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
