Manhattan Night Walk Black And White Street Photography
A Passing Figure Beneath Trees Strung With Light
A dark figure moves through a bright corridor of trees on a wet Manhattan sidewalk. I photographed this New York street at night in 2005, when the little lights above the pavement and their reflections below gave an ordinary walk a striking visual rhythm. In black and white, the woman becomes a soft silhouette against the glittering branches.
The trees form a long, receding line, with parked cars and building fronts tucked into the darker side of the frame. Their trunks divide the view into narrow intervals. Across the sidewalk, reflected light breaks into irregular patches, so the ground carries almost as much activity as the canopy overhead. I like that connection between the two halves of the photograph.
The walking figure interrupts all that repetition. Her outline is blurred, her bag rests at her side, and her face remains indistinct. Those small details keep the scene human without turning it into a portrait of a particular expression. My attention stays on the contrast between her passing movement and the steady arrangement of trees, cars, and paving stones.
What draws me back to this image is its mixture of brightness and privacy. The street is full of light, yet much of it remains dark. For a room that suits monochrome city photography, it offers the familiar texture of New York after rain, with enough visual depth to keep the eye moving along the sidewalk.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
