Fishing Trawler Machinery | Black and White Maritime Photograph
A Doorway View Of Metal Drums And Wooden Floorboards
Light from the side windows was what drew me into this view aboard the Cape Sable fishing trawler. I photographed through a doorway, with a dark handle close to the camera and machinery filling the space beyond. In black and white, the pale painted surfaces, heavy circular forms, and wooden floor give the interior a clear sense of depth.
The doorway does more than mark the entrance. Its bright vertical edge contrasts with the darker room, allowing the machinery to emerge gradually rather than appear all at once. I like how the handle remains a simple, recognizable shape beside the more complicated parts inside.
A large drum occupies much of the right side, with a wheel above and a smaller circular mechanism lower in the frame. Pipes and narrow metal lines connect the broader shapes, while the floorboards lead back toward the open space at the far end. Keeping the floor visible helps the dense interior remain readable.
I was interested in the light and surfaces rather than trying to explain every component. The worn paint, metal edges, and repeated curves offer their own visual rhythm. This close view retains the vessel's physical character without requiring a complete exterior portrait: a threshold, a narrow room, and the equipment inside it. Looking through the doorway gives me a way into those details while preserving the enclosure that makes them distinctive.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
