Small Harbour Lights Beneath Steep Snow-Streaked Norwegian Mountains
Small lights along the Reine waterfront catch my eye before the mountain shapes fully emerge. I photographed this Norwegian coastal view beneath heavy storm clouds, with dark water across the foreground and snow-streaked slopes rising on either side. The buildings are modest in scale, but they give the scene a clear human presence.
I like the way the mountains frame the harbour. The right-hand slope is close and strongly defined, its dark rock cut by narrow white traces of snow. Farther back, the peaks soften into cloud until their outlines are only just visible. That progression makes the low weather feel like part of the landscape rather than simply a backdrop.
Along the shore, white houses and darker waterside buildings gather into a thin band. A few bright lamps make small reflections on the grey water. I kept them in the composition because their scale matters: against the mountain walls, those ordinary lights become points of reassurance without changing the photograph’s subdued mood.
The colour is restrained, with grey-green water and rock carrying most of the frame. I was drawn to the contrast between the broad, quiet foreground and the more complicated shoreline beyond it. As a horizontal print, it offers an atmospheric coastal view for a living room or office. What I remember most is the sense of the harbour held between two slopes, with the small buildings remaining visible as the distant mountains disappear into the weather.
