Peggys Cove Lighthouse Beyond Rounded Rocks Black and White Coastal Photography
A Pale Tower Rising Above Broad Cracked Stone Surfaces
The lighthouse appears beyond a low ridge of rounded rocks, its pale tower and dark lantern standing clearly against the grey sky. Much of the photograph is devoted to the foreground stone, where broad curves are divided by deep cracks. I made this image at Peggy’s Cove in 2014, choosing a view that gives the rocky setting as much importance as the building.
Standing here, I was aware of the rough surfaces beneath my feet and the lighthouse holding its place above them. That relationship shaped the composition. The nearest slabs lead upward through smaller rises, and only then does the eye reach the tower. I like how the lower part of the lighthouse is partly hidden, making it feel closely connected to the rocks rather than placed in front of them.
Black and white draws attention to the small tonal changes in the stone. Pale rounded tops sit above darker seams, while the lantern adds a sharper, more angular detail. The sky stays soft and open around it. There is enough texture to explore without losing the simple arrangement of rock, tower and sky.
This vertical coastal photograph would suit a reading corner, a room with natural materials or someone with a connection to Nova Scotia. It offers a quiet view of a familiar landmark, centred on its physical surroundings. The lighthouse remains the recognizable subject, while the foreground gives the image a substantial, tactile presence.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
