This black-and-white photograph was taken at Curtis Island Lighthouse near Camden, Maine, where the small historic structure stands quietly above the waterline, separated from the mainland by a narrow stretch of sea. A weathered wooden walkway leads directly toward the lighthouse, drawing the eye forward and giving the image a natural sense of invitation and direction.

In monochrome, the scene becomes about simplicity and balance. The pale lighthouse contrasts gently with the darker grasses and worn boards beneathfoot, while the open water and soft sky remove any sense of urgency. The structure feels modest rather than imposing, grounded in its purpose and shaped by time rather than scale.

Curtis Island is accessible only by boat, and that separation defines the experience of being here. There’s a pause that happens when you step onto the island—no traffic, no noise, just water, wind, and the sound of your own movement across the ground. That quiet carries through in the photograph, making it feel personal and unforced.

This image works exceptionally well in spaces that value calm, symmetry, and subtle texture—such as offices, hallways, studies, or minimalist interiors. The strong central composition provides structure, while the black-and-white palette allows the photograph to blend naturally without competing with its surroundings.

This photograph was created on location through real travel and lived experience. I personally sign each print and include a certificate of authenticity confirming it as an original, artist-made photograph.
