Lone Island Spruce Emerging From Atlantic Fog
Some landscapes whisper rather than shout. This one did exactly that.
I was standing along the shoreline in Newfoundland when the fog began rolling slowly across the water. It wasn’t dramatic in the obvious sense. No blazing sunset, no crashing waves. Just a quiet, persistent veil of mist drifting across a calm lake while the forest behind it faded further and further into soft grey layers.
In the middle of that scene sat a small island covered in spruce and scrub trees. At first it almost disappeared into the atmosphere, but as the fog shifted slightly the tallest trees revealed themselves like silhouettes emerging from memory. The longer I stood there watching, the more the island felt like its own little world—detached from the mainland and suspended between water and sky.
That isolation is what pulled me to make the photograph.
The tallest spruce stands like a quiet sentinel in the center of the island while the surrounding trees gather around it in irregular shapes. Their branches are tangled and weathered, shaped by years of Atlantic wind and harsh winters. Beneath them, dense vegetation spills down to the waterline where the lake laps softly at the island’s edge.
Behind it all, the distant forest dissolves into layers of fog and atmosphere. That gradual fade into the background creates depth while keeping the mood restrained and contemplative. Black and white felt like the only honest way to present this moment. Without color competing for attention, the structure of the trees, the softness of the mist, and the calm surface of the water take over completely.
I photographed this scene while exploring Newfoundland with my camera, waiting quietly for the fog to settle into something that felt balanced. It’s a moment that lasted only a short while before the wind shifted again and the island disappeared back into the haze.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks on Epson Premium Luster paper to preserve the tonal depth and subtle textures that make monochrome landscapes work. Every print is personally signed by me and includes a certificate of authenticity.
Images like this tend to work beautifully in spaces where calm matters—offices, reading rooms, quiet living areas, or anywhere that benefits from a sense of stillness and depth. The layered fog and restrained tones give the piece a contemplative presence without overwhelming the room.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
