Florence Wooden Shutters on a Yellow Wall Photo Print

Warm Plaster Surrounds the Repeated Lines of Closed Shutters

A simple pair of shutters can hold my attention for a long time. Here in Florence, their reddish wood stands against yellow plaster, with weathering softening both surfaces. I photographed the window closely in color, keeping the surrounding wall and the ledge beneath it as part of the composition. The result is a small architectural study of warmth, repetition, and wear.

The shutters give the image its clearest pattern. Narrow horizontal slats run down both panels, divided by upright frames and a darker central seam. Their color shifts from red-brown to nearly black in the recessed spaces. Around them, the wall has a much less regular surface: pale patches interrupt the yellow, and darker marks gather closer to the sill.

That contrast is what drew me in. The window has an orderly design, but neither the wood nor the plaster presents a perfectly even finish. Small changes of tone make the facade feel specific. The long ledge below adds a strong horizontal base, while the cropped view allows the shutter panels to reach beyond the upper edge of the photograph.

I have always enjoyed looking closely at Tuscany’s buildings, especially details that can be passed without notice. This image keeps that interest at a modest scale. No sweeping view is needed; the relationship between warm wood and a weathered yellow wall is enough. The longer I look, the more the regular slats reveal small differences, and the wall’s apparently simple color becomes a collection of lighter and darker patches.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
