Green Hillside Fields Above the Atlantic Surf
Mist settles over the higher ground of the Dingle Peninsula while the Atlantic sends white surf toward the shore below. I photographed this County Kerry landscape from the hillside, with green fields filling the foreground and the coast curving away to the left. The view brings farmland and sea together beneath a low, unsettled Irish sky.
The land has a strong diagonal movement. The nearer field slopes across the frame, leading toward a patchwork of smaller fields farther up the hillside. Dark boundaries divide that green into irregular shapes, with a few small buildings providing a quiet human presence within the landscape.
Along the coast, the white lines of breaking waves repeat the curve of the bay. I like how those moving bands sit beside the steadier geometry of the fields. The water's blue-grey color also offers a cooler counterpoint to the brighter grass, keeping the two parts of the scene distinct.
The mist changes the view as the land rises. Details remain clear lower down, then soften toward the cloud-covered ridge. That gradual loss of definition gives the photograph depth and leaves something of the higher ground unseen.
This is the kind of Irish coastal weather that makes me keep looking rather than wait for an entirely clear sky. For someone drawn to the Dingle Peninsula, the photograph holds several familiar elements together: green land, stone boundaries, Atlantic surf, and hills that disappear into low cloud. Its atmosphere comes from the way those elements meet in this particular view.
