Young Boy in a Crowded Indian Shop Black and White Photography
A Small Chair Portrait Beneath Shelves Of Stacked Goods
The boy sits low in the frame, leaning forward over the curved back of a worn chair. I photographed him in an Indian shop filled with stacked goods, hanging bundles, and glass display cases. In black and white, his pale cap and small face remain clear within that crowded setting, while his gaze turns slightly aside.
An older bearded man sits farther inside, higher in the composition and looking away. I like the distance between the two figures. They give the photograph separate points of human attention without needing to interact, and neither has to explain the other. The boy's compact posture contrasts with the more upright figure behind him.
I kept the shop visible because its arrangement is part of what interested me. Shelves of tightly packed merchandise fill the left side, while reflective glass introduces lighter patches below. The chair, doorway edge, and hanging objects add different surfaces and shapes around the figures. It is a dense scene, but those details give the portrait its particular setting.
Looking at the photograph, my eye moves from the boy to the older man and then through the stacks between them. The vertical frame allows those layers to remain connected, from the chair near the floor to the goods overhead. I wanted to preserve that combination of a small human presence and a place full of everyday detail, without smoothing away the surroundings that made the scene worth noticing.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
