Indian Man in Motorcycle Helmet Black and White Portrait Photography
Folded Hands Beside Brickwork And A Glass Display
A motorcycle helmet remains on his head as he sits beside a street display case in India. I photographed the man in black and white, keeping his full seated figure within the narrow frame. His lowered gaze, folded hands and pale clothing give the portrait a quiet centre beside the glass and rough brickwork.
The helmet and heavy beard create darker shapes around his face. A patterned cloth hangs beneath the helmet, adding another texture at the side. His hands meet in his lap, while the loose clothing and open sandals carry the figure down toward the worn step below.
I wanted the display case to remain substantial in the composition. Its straight edges and reflected shapes provide a counterweight to the seated man. Fragments of lettering, patterned panels and the glass surface keep the portrait rooted in an everyday street environment without requiring a wider view.
The different materials are part of what holds my attention: fabric, beard, brick, glass and concrete each have their own surface. Black and white draws them into a shared tonal range while the light clothing keeps the figure clearly separated. For me, the photograph works through the relationship between the man’s still posture and the more structured shopfront beside him. The face remains important, but the hands, clothing and surrounding objects all contribute to the particular moment I found.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
