Scattered Blue Pools Across A Golden Mineral Landscape
Lifting the drone above this geothermal field gave me a broader view of its scattered blue pools and golden ground. I photographed the landscape near Lake Mývatn during my 2022 visit to northern Iceland, looking at how the individual hollows fitted within the larger pattern. The scene was full of smaller circles, pale patches, and dark seams, but the turquoise areas gave it a clear visual rhythm.
On the right, two rounded pools sit close together within darker rims. Farther left, a longer blue area bends through rougher terrain, accompanied by several smaller pockets of colour. The golden ground separates those shapes while also connecting them through faint lines and changing textures. I wanted to include that space between the pools because it makes the photograph more than a study of any single feature. It shows a whole arrangement of forms, with each blue area contributing to the balance of the wider frame.
The overhead perspective removes the horizon and lets colour become the main guide. My eye moves between the brighter pools before noticing the irregular rings and mottled ground around them. Some sections appear smooth from this height; others break into a much finer texture. That change in scale is what made the aerial view so rewarding to photograph. As abstract nature wall art, the image offers vivid turquoise against warm earth tones without losing its connection to a real Icelandic landscape. It brings a lively pattern to a contemporary space, with small variations that invite another look.
