A Pale Vintage Taxi Beneath Warm Havana Streetlights
The pale taxi catches the streetlight while the arches beside it remain partly in shadow. I photographed this Old Havana street at night in 2017, drawn to the subdued colours and the relationship between the classic car and the older buildings. The colour image keeps the amber light and cooler doorways in balance.
The car sits across the lower part of the frame, giving the scene a clear foreground subject. Behind it, arched openings lead into darker spaces, while the opposite building carries balconies, windows and lit ground-floor entrances. Smaller figures and another vehicle remain part of the background, giving the street a sense of daily use without crowding the composition.
I like the areas that are only partly revealed. The light defines some edges sharply and lets others fall away, so the shadows contribute to the architecture’s shape. Warm tones spread across the road and pale facades, while blue and green accents keep the image from becoming a single colour. Those differences give the night view its depth.
For me, the photograph holds a quieter encounter with Havana, with the taxi anchoring a scene that rewards a closer look at the buildings around it. As wall art, it can suit someone interested in Cuba, classic cars or atmospheric street photography. Its warm night palette brings character to a room, while the arched facade and vintage vehicle provide distinct subjects within the broader city view.
