Havana Harbour Skyline Black and White Photography

Layered Rooftops and a Dome Beyond the Waterfront

Havana reveals a different pattern when seen across its harbour. Instead of following a single street, the eye moves through a dense arrangement of waterfront buildings, trees, and rooftops. I made this black-and-white cityscape during my 2017 visit to Cuba, with a prominent dome rising above the surrounding skyline.

The water forms a narrow band along the lower edge. Beyond it, the quay gives the composition a long horizontal line, while the buildings introduce repeated windows, balconies, and changes in height. Some facades face the harbour directly; others appear between nearer structures, suggesting how much of the city continues beyond the visible waterfront.

I am drawn to the way the dome provides a clear point of reference without overwhelming the scene. Its curved profile stands apart from the mostly rectangular rooftops. Around it, smaller towers and taller buildings interrupt the skyline at uneven intervals. The pale sky leaves those shapes easy to read.

Working in monochrome lets the layers of architecture remain the main interest. Light walls stand beside darker windows and shaded trees, creating separation within a view that could otherwise feel crowded. There are details to discover across the full frame, from the buildings nearest the water to the farther rooftops.

This photograph brings a broad Havana city view into a room through texture and structure. It can hold the attention of someone remembering a visit to Cuba, while also offering an architectural composition whose appeal lies in the relationship between the harbour and the city beyond it.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
