Snow Laden Evergreens Beneath Dappled Winter Clouds
Winter settles deeply into the landscape around Haliburton, Ontario. Fresh snow rests on every evergreen branch, covers the narrow opening through the woods, and softens the smaller plants rising from the forest floor. This photograph reflects the quiet atmosphere I look for in my Northern Ontario winter wall art, where the landscape itself carries the image without needing anything added.
I photographed this scene on location near my studio in Haliburton. I know these woods and the particular silence that follows a snowfall, when the usual details of the landscape become simpler and more defined. Standing there, I could feel the peaceful nature of Northern Ontario—the cold air, the still trees, and the sense that the forest had briefly withdrawn from everything beyond it.
The composition is built around the natural passage leading into the trees. Snow-covered evergreens frame the left side and gather densely through the center, while slender bare trunks create a lighter vertical pattern on the right. Above them, dappled cloud cover gives the sky a shifting range of gray tones. That textured sky keeps the upper portion of the photograph active while preserving the subdued mood of the scene.
What makes this image work for me is the balance between detail and restraint. The dark needles, pale trunks, layered branches, and untouched snow provide plenty to study, but none of those elements overwhelms the others. The tonal separation is especially important in this snow covered forest wall art, allowing the individual trees to remain visible within a dense and complex woodland.
The black-and-white treatment removes any distraction from color and concentrates attention on shape, texture, and depth. Snow becomes the light that organizes the photograph, tracing branches and guiding the eye from the foreground into the darker trees. The cloud cover prevents the scene from becoming too bright or stark, giving the image a softer range of grays that feels true to the winter conditions I experienced.
This photograph is well suited to someone who feels connected to forests, northern winters, or the stillness of being outdoors after fresh snow. Its neutral tones can sit comfortably in a living room, bedroom, office, cottage, or quiet reading space. The vertical format also works well on a narrower wall where the upward movement of the trunks can give the room a greater sense of height.
Each limited edition print is personally signed by me and includes a certificate of authenticity. The photograph is produced using archival pigment inks on archival paper, preserving the fine branch detail, smooth snow, and full tonal range of the original image. The edition is limited to ten prints.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
