Vintage Fire Alarm Call Box Black and White Industrial Photography
Raised Lettering and Number 2226 on Weathered Metal
I approached this vintage fire alarm call box almost as a portrait. In the black and white photograph, its face fills the frame: large Fire lettering above, a pale instruction panel in the centre, and the number 2226 below. The close view makes the object’s worn surface as noticeable as its practical design.
The different kinds of lettering give the image a strong structure. Broad letters sit beneath the curved top, while the smaller instructions fit into a rectangular opening. The number plate anchors the lower part of the composition with four bright figures against a dark background. Around these clear shapes, the metal is mottled and scratched. I wanted the lighting to reveal those irregularities without losing the edges that make the box recognizable.
A small round fitting beside the central panel interrupts the otherwise balanced arrangement. It is one of the details I notice after the main words and numbers, along with the uneven finish around the door. Working in monochrome lets the pale panel stand forward from the darker surround, while keeping all of those smaller marks visible. For me, the photograph brings out how much visual character a practical object can have. Its purpose is written plainly across the front, yet the close framing also reveals a compact arrangement of curves, rectangles, raised type and rough texture.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
