Maine Vintage Fuel and Soda Signs Black and White Photography
Exxon and Texaco Signs Across a Weathered Maine Wall
A bold Exxon rectangle and a large round Texaco sign frame this collection of vintage advertising on a Maine shingle wall. I photographed it while travelling through coastal Maine, drawn to the familiar names and the textured surface beneath them. In black and white, the signs become an arrangement of circles, rectangles, lettering and weathered tones, with a small window interrupting the display.
The Wrong Way sign was one of the details that first held my attention. Its pale face sits near the centre, beside a faded Coke panel and just above a long automotive sign. Smaller advertisements fill the remaining spaces, bringing feed, soda and roadside branding into the same view. I liked how the different styles of lettering stayed distinct against the repeating shingles. The window adds another kind of rectangle, one with depth and reflected light rather than a painted message.
Back in the studio, I worked in monochrome to bring out the surfaces I had noticed on location. Dark streaks run across the wood, pale lettering breaks through worn sign faces, and the clean geometry of the larger panels contrasts with the irregular marks around them. The photograph rewards a close look while keeping a strong overall shape. It is a natural fit for someone interested in vintage advertising, motoring history or the character of New England roadside places. For me, it records a wall where many different pieces of visual history shared the same small space during my visit.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
