Snow Traces the River Beside a Layered Urban Backdrop
I remember the winter stillness along this stretch of river in Oslo, Norway. The water moved through a place where bare trees, snow and graffiti-covered buildings all shared the view. This black and white photograph follows that meeting of nature and the city, with the river curving into the frame between thin white edges of snow.
The large tree on the left gives the scene its nearest shape. Its branches twist across the sky and overlap the buildings beyond, creating a fine, irregular pattern. Across the water, the architecture is more layered: low roofs, windows, signs and a taller wall covered in lettering. I like that the two sides have such different textures without feeling separate from one another.
The river provides a quieter surface through the middle. Reflections break across its dark water, while the snowy banks make its curve easy to follow. Monochrome lets the graffiti become part of the overall pattern rather than a competing burst of colour. The contrast between hard building edges and small, tangled branches remains clear.
I am often drawn to urban corners that show how a place is used, and this one held that character for me. It is not a grand city overview; it is a winter walk beside ordinary buildings and a river. As a horizontal print, it would suit someone who enjoys lived-in city landscapes. What stays with me is the snow’s narrow outline, quietly connecting the rough urban backdrop to the moving water below.
