Shibuya Layered White Graffiti Wall IV Colour Photography
Large Pale Letters Across a Vertical Colour Field
Large pale letters run through a tightly packed field of colour in this Tokyo graffiti photograph. I framed a vertical section of a Shibuya stairwell wall, letting the white marks cross the turquoise, pink, blue, and yellow paint beneath them. The surface is busy from edge to edge, but the larger writing gives it a clear rhythm that I can follow through the smaller details.
I found the wall in a passage connecting several floors of shops, with people moving between the landings as I photographed. Working close to the surface let me leave the staircase itself outside the composition. For this fourth image in the series, I chose a section where tall strokes and broad curves alternate across the frame. Fine lettering remains visible between them, and patches of colour keep reappearing beneath the overlapping marks. I liked the way the vertical format encouraged the eye to travel down the wall while still finding movement from side to side.
The photograph holds two different scales at once. From a little distance, the white writing and bright colour make a strong abstract arrangement. Closer inspection reveals fragments of names, small drawings, and the rough texture of the painted surface. I do not need every mark to be readable to enjoy those shifts. What matters to me is the particular balance I found within the larger wall. For someone drawn to graffiti photography, vibrant urban textures, or abstract colour, this image preserves a real Shibuya surface as I encountered it, with enough detail to invite repeated looking.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
