Worn Ochre Walls And A Pale Car In Sunlight
Sunlight crosses the weathered walls of this Havana street, picking out patches of ochre paint and exposed masonry. A pale classic car stands beside the curb, giving the scene a clear point of interest without taking over the architecture. I liked how the street recedes towards the left while the nearest doorways remain large enough to examine closely.
The facade on the right has tall, narrow openings and ornate metal grilles. Its surfaces change from faded paint to rough stone, with a dark wooden door adding a steadier shape at the edge of the photograph. Across those textures, diagonal shadows make the strong light visible. They give the wall depth and help separate one entrance from the next.
Farther down the street, pink and muted green facades add small shifts in colour. Bright flowers hang near the car, bringing a softer accent into the worn surroundings. The car itself offers rounded chrome and a light body, contrasting with the upright lines of the doorways and the darker recesses behind their grilles.
I photographed this view in Havana in 2017. For me, its appeal comes from the particular combination of colour, light and closely packed details, rather than a broad claim about the city. It makes an inviting piece of Cuban street photography for someone who enjoys textured architecture, vintage vehicles and scenes that let the eye travel from a near doorway into the distance.
