Hampton Court Door and Climbing Vines Black and White Photography
Twisting Branches Surround a Small Door in Dark Brick
I stood for a while looking at this door at Hampton Court Palace before making the photograph. The pale stone surround separates it from the dark brick wall, while thick climbing stems reach across the doorway and spread to the right. In black and white, that contrast makes the entrance clear even within the tangle around it.
The door has several different surfaces within a small space. Narrow glazed panels fill the upper part, catching faint reflections, while the lower wood shows a more uneven grain. A small letter slot crosses the middle. Above it all, the top of the entrance rises into a shallow point, echoed by the stone that frames the opening. I wanted those compact architectural details to remain readable.
The branches gave me a second subject to follow. Larger stems twist close to the wall, with fine bare growth running across the brickwork and a few leaves near the arch. Below, fallen leaves gather beside the paving and around the base of the growth. The doorway keeps its straight lines within that irregular pattern.
I kept enough ground in the frame to show the entrance as a place reached on foot. Stone slabs, a small mat and scattered leaves lead toward the door, rather than leaving it isolated on the wall. For me, the photograph holds the textures that made me pause: worn wood, pale stone, darker brick and the rough curves of the climbing stems.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
