Abandoned Clothing in a Bahamas House Black and White Photography

Hanging Fabric Beside A Broad Area Of Bare Wall

Inside an abandoned house on a tiny outer island in the Bahamas, I found clothes still hanging among household objects. Dust had settled over fabric, baskets and containers. I photographed the scene in black and white, keeping it as I found it and leaving the reason for those belongings’ presence unanswered.

The hanging clothes occupy the right side, while a broad area of bare wall remains at the left. I wanted that imbalance because the empty space gives the layered fabrics more weight. Sleeves, checks, folds and a pale collar create a dense arrangement beside a surface with very little detail.

Below the clothes, woven objects and small containers add another level to the room. Their shapes are familiar enough to suggest everyday use, but their setting changes how I look at them. The photograph holds traces of a home without supplying a history for the people who once lived there.

Black and white brings attention to the different textures rather than individual clothing colours. The soft fabric, dusty surfaces and rougher interior edges remain distinct within a restrained range of tones. What interested me was the stillness of the arrangement and the questions it left. Nothing needed to be moved for the camera. The clothes retained their recognisable shapes within an empty house, giving the photograph a human connection even with no person in the frame.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
