Dingle Peninsula Field With Old Bathtub Black and White Rural Photography
Weathered Fences and Stone Boundaries Across a Sloping Hillside
An old bathtub rests low in the grass, introducing an unexpected shape into this Dingle Peninsula field. Behind it, fence posts and rough stonework divide a hillside that rises toward the right. I photographed the scene in County Kerry, Ireland, in 2019. The bath’s pale rim caught my attention within the broader rural setting, giving a familiar domestic object an unusual place among fields and weathered boundaries.
Its long rectangular outline sits near the lower centre, with grass growing around and beneath it. The smoother edge contrasts with the fine stems and uneven ground nearby. I like how the photograph lets that small detail remain prominent while keeping the landscape around it visible. Upright posts run across the middle distance, joined by thin wires that follow the slope. A rough pile of stone near the right adds another texture and a heavier shape within the hillside.
Further back, field boundaries form long lines across the rising ground, with a few small buildings visible in the distance. Clouds occupy the narrower strip of sky at the left. Black and white brings bath, grass, fencing and stone into a common rural palette while retaining the differences between their surfaces. As a print, the photograph offers a quiet Irish countryside scene with an unusual foreground detail. It suits an interest in farmland, weathered objects and the small practical arrangements that give a landscape its everyday character.
