Kilmainham Gaol Narrow Corridor Black and White Dublin Interior Photography
Peeling Walls and a Vaulted Ceiling Leading Toward Light
A narrow corridor stretches toward a brighter opening inside Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. The arched ceiling follows its length, while doorways and deep window recesses repeat along the walls. I photographed this prison interior in 2019. Its confined proportions and worn surfaces give the view a strong atmosphere, with the light at the far end drawing the eye through the darker foreground.
On the left, patches of pale paint have lifted from the wall, revealing a more irregular surface underneath. Thin pipes run above the cell openings, adding long lines that follow the passage. I like how these small practical details reinforce the corridor’s direction. The right wall is darker and more continuous, with recessed windows producing separate areas of light.
Rectangular floor slabs lead toward the distant doorway. Their pale joints form a broken line through the centre, making the depth easy to follow even where the light becomes limited. Above, a small bright bulb picks out the curve of the ceiling near the far end, adding another point of illumination within the passage.
Black and white brings the peeling surfaces, stone floor and deep shadows into a detailed tonal study. The portrait orientation emphasises both the corridor’s length and the height of its vault. As a print, this photograph offers a restrained view of a historic Irish prison interior, suited to an interest in old institutional architecture, receding spaces and the visual texture of weathered buildings.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
