Che Guevara Portrait on a Blue Cuban Facade | Colour Photograph
A Painted Portrait Between Barred Windows and Large UJC Letters
A black-and-white portrait of Che Guevara appears on a pale blue Cuban facade, between a barred window and a white wooden door. Large UJC letters occupy the wall to the right. I photographed this close street view in 2017, keeping the tiled roof, worn plaster and narrow strip of pavement within the frame.
The building’s colour gives the image its immediate character. Blue covers most of the wall, while cream surrounds define the window and door. Near the base, yellowed plaster breaks into pale patches, and a small area of exposed red brick interrupts the surface beneath the portrait. The roof tiles add a darker, more densely repeated texture above.
I find the different marks across the facade especially interesting. The painted face is concentrated and detailed, the UJC letters are broad and open, and the window bars form a close vertical pattern. The door provides another kind of geometry, with raised panels and a small number beside it. Sunlight and diagonal shadows cross those elements, giving the otherwise direct view changes in depth.
For me, the photograph holds together through the relationship between the imagery and its everyday setting. The portrait remains recognisable, but the worn wall, ironwork and roof are equally part of what I encountered. As colour architectural wall art, this image offers a specific Cuban street detail with political imagery visible within the facade. My eye moves from the face to the lettering, then back through the quieter textures of the blue plaster.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
