Weathered Italian Wall and Barred Window Colour Photography
Ochre Plaster and Exposed Brick Around an Old Window
Orange and ochre plaster spread around a barred window, giving this small section of Italian architecture the richness of a painting. Near the bottom, the plaster has fallen away to reveal red brick and uneven stone. I photographed the wall for those layered surfaces, and for the blue-grey glass that interrupts the warmth.
The window sits slightly to one side. Its rectangular grille supplies a regular pattern against the wall’s irregular patches, cracks and worn edges. Around the frame, pale repairs form another border, so the opening seems to sit within several layers of colour. None of those shapes feels planned for the camera; they are the accumulated appearance of a used, weathered building.
I made this photograph in Italy in 2010, during travels when aged architectural details repeatedly caught my attention. There was something particularly satisfying about this wall’s balance. The window offers a clear place to begin looking, yet the broad orange surface beside it is just as important. Small shifts from rust to gold to grey keep that apparently simple space active.
This is a photograph for someone who enjoys Italian architecture at an intimate scale, with the emphasis on texture and colour rather than a recognisable landmark. Warm earth tones give it a strong presence, while the straight lines of the window keep the composition settled. I return to the exposed brick along the lower edge: it makes the layered surface tangible, revealing what lies beneath the coloured plaster.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
