Red Shutter on a Weathered Bahamas Wall Fine Art Photograph
Peeling Ochre and Green Paint Around a Closed Window
A red wooden shutter provides a strong shape within this weathered wall in Clarence Town, Bahamas. Around it, ochre paint has worn away in irregular patches, revealing pale surfaces and a softer green layer below. I photographed the detail in 2010, letting the colour and texture of one small section of the building fill the view.
The shutter has its own pattern of wear. Long pale streaks follow the grain of the wood, breaking up the red without losing its overall shape. The narrow frame and lower crosspiece remain easy to read, giving the composition a firmer structure than the changing patches on the wall.
I was drawn to the way the colours meet. Red occupies a clear rectangle on the left, while yellow-orange, cream, and green spread more freely across the right. Near the bottom, darker marks and a broken area of plaster add another texture. Each change in the surface becomes part of the photograph’s arrangement.
The close view leaves the surrounding street outside the frame. That makes the image feel almost abstract, although the closed shutter keeps it grounded in a recognisable architectural detail. There is no need for a large scene to find a rich range of shapes and colours.
This print offers a different view of the Bahamas, through a building’s worn surface rather than a beach or seascape. It can bring a warm colour accent to a room, with the softer green and pale plaster balancing the shutter’s red.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
