Abandoned Bahamas Kitchen Black and White Photo Print

Open Cupboard Doors Above a Table Left Behind

The cupboard doors are open, but only a few objects remain on the shelves. Below, a basin and cooking pot sit on a small table draped in torn cloth. I photographed this abandoned kitchen in Clarence Town, on Long Island in the Bahamas, drawn to the way familiar domestic objects hold their place within a room that has fallen quiet.

In black and white, the differences between the surfaces become more apparent. The cupboard’s dark interior sits above the pale wall, while the cloth brings a delicate pattern into the rougher textures around it. A shuttered window at the left carries cracked and peeling paint, with a thin strip of light along its upper edge.

The table is slightly off centre, leaving space for the window and debris-strewn floor to remain part of the scene. I wanted that wider context because the utensils alone would tell a different story. Here, their ordinary shapes are inseparable from the condition of the kitchen: open shelves, damaged fabric, worn walls, and dust below.

There is no need to imagine who once cooked here for the room to feel personal. The objects are recognisable enough to suggest daily use, while the photograph leaves the household’s history unresolved. That restraint matters to me. The image offers a quiet interior study for viewers drawn to abandoned places, with small details that become more visible over time. Its grey tones keep the attention on the arrangement of the room and the traces of use that remain.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
