Rome Bicycle and Ochre Graffiti Wall Photography
A Quiet Bicycle Beneath a Wall Full of Marks
The bicycle is almost the quietest thing here. Behind its narrow black frame, a Roman wall carries cracked ochre plaster, fading graffiti, and a pale door worn nearly to the color of the exposed patches around it. I stopped on this side street in Rome for the meeting of everyday use and a surface that seemed to have accumulated marks in every direction.
Late morning light brought warmth to the plaster. It also made the missing sections visible, so the yellow never became a flat background. A long crack travels across the upper wall; lower down, handwritten marks gather beside the door. The bicycle occupies the bottom of the vertical composition, its basket, curved frame, and two bright wheel rims standing out against the darker base of the building.
I kept the paving in the frame because it gives the scene a place to stand. Its broad lines lead toward the wheels, while the tall door pulls the view upward again. Nothing needs to move for the photograph to have rhythm: circles at ground level, a rectangle behind them, and irregular strokes across the wall.
This is the Rome I find between the better-known sights. A bicycle left beside a doorway can make me pause as readily as a monument, particularly when light gives the surrounding textures such presence. The color photograph preserves that modest encounter, with the warmth of the wall holding together its much smaller details.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
