Abandoned Chair in Ontario Interior Black and White Photography
Thin Light Between Boards Above A Debris-Strewn Floor
Thin seams of light first drew me into this abandoned Ontario interior. Bright vertical strips appear between tall wooden boards, illuminating a room filled with debris. I made the photograph in black and white, keeping the old chair at the right as the form that holds the surrounding textures together.
Its curved metal frame is still distinct beneath the material lying across the seat. A barrel stands behind it, and a heavy plank leans against the rough brick wall. Those few larger shapes give the eye a route through a much denser foreground of broken wood and scattered remnants.
I like the contrast between the boards’ upright rhythm and the irregular floor below. The architecture retains a clear structure, while smaller objects overlap at different angles. The narrow light adds depth between those layers rather than revealing the whole room evenly.
The chair leaves a recognisable human shape in a scene without people. For me, it is enough to suggest the room’s earlier use without explaining who occupied it or how it came to this condition. From a distance, the chair and lit gaps are the strongest elements; closer viewing reveals worn surfaces and finer debris. The photograph’s quiet, dark palette brings attention to that physical detail, giving the interior a textured presence suited to an industrial or rustic setting.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
