White Marker Tags Dripping Across Colorful Graffiti Wall
Some graffiti walls are bold and graphic from a distance. Others reveal themselves slowly as you study the surface. This section of the stairwell wall in Shibuya, Tokyo, immediately caught my attention because of the heavy white marker tags stretching across the center of the frame.
The white lines move through the image, almost like brushstrokes in a painting. Thick loops and vertical streaks run downward, some of them dripping slightly as the paint or marker bled into the wall’s rough texture. Behind those gestures sits a dense background of color that has built up over the years. Blues, pinks, turquoise, yellow, and violet paints overlap each other in layers that feel almost geological, as if the wall has recorded time through color.
What makes this surface fascinating is the number of voices present at once. Every mark was created by someone different, at a different moment, without any intention of forming a finished artwork. Yet when viewed together, the layers create an unexpected rhythm. The white tags dominate the foreground, but if you look deeper, you begin to see dozens of smaller marks beneath them. Tiny hearts, initials, arrows, quick sketches, and fragments of words appear throughout the background.
One small detail that stands out is the cartoon face on the right side of the frame, drawn in blue marker with exaggerated round glasses. It feels playful and almost hidden among the chaos, the kind of small discovery that rewards a closer look. Walls like this invite exploration. The longer you study them, the more details emerge.
I discovered this wall while walking through a multi-level stairwell that connected several floors of shops in Shibuya. The staircase was constantly busy with people moving between levels, yet the walls themselves had clearly been accumulating layers of graffiti for years. Every landing revealed another section of the same surface, each one saturated with color and marks left behind by strangers passing through the space.
Rather than photographing the entire wall, I began isolating sections where the layers felt balanced. When you move close to the surface, the chaos begins to organize itself. Shapes start to repeat. Colors create rhythm. Lines guide the eye across the frame. In this case, the sweeping white tags created a strong visual structure that held the composition together.
This photograph captures a fragment of that stairwell wall where the layers of color and gesture suddenly aligned into something visually compelling. It is a record of a place shaped by countless anonymous moments, preserved here as an urban abstraction.
Each print is produced with archival pigment inks on museum-quality paper to preserve the rich color and intricate texture captured on location. Every print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
