Gothic Basilica Windows Gdansk Upward View Black and White Photography
Looking Up Between St Mary’s Tall Brick Windows
Two tall windows rise above the viewer at St Mary’s Basilica in Gdansk, Poland. I photographed them from a low angle, letting the converging brick walls and window edges give the image its upward movement. The black and white treatment brings out the glass patterns and the rough texture of the surrounding masonry.
This is a close architectural view rather than a portrait of the entire church. One window occupies much of the left side, while the second enters from the right on a wall turned toward it. Their meeting creates a deep corner through the center of the composition. A small area of pale sky opens above, making the height feel more pronounced.
The glass carries two levels of pattern: broad divisions within the window frames and finer diagonal lines across the panes. Those delicate marks contrast with the heavier rows of brick. I like how the photograph keeps both visible. The building feels substantial, but the windows introduce a lighter, more intricate structure within its walls.
For me, the low viewpoint changes an ordinary architectural detail into an experience of scale. The eye travels upward rather than stopping at a single feature, following edges toward the curved window tops and roofline. This vertical image can suit a space where Gothic architecture, restrained tones, and strong perspective are welcome. Its character comes from that combination of height, texture, and repeated lines.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
