Nevada Ghost Town Railway Buildings | Black and White Photography
Two Small Structures Stand Beneath a Wide Cloud Filled Sky
A backcountry detour brought me to these railway buildings in Currie, Nevada. What caught my attention was their plainness: two small structures, a tall utility pole and a broad desert setting with nothing competing for space. I photographed them in black and white, letting the worn buildings hold their place within the larger landscape.
The taller building sits to the right, its damaged roof and dark openings easy to read against the distant slopes. A lower structure stands farther left, separated from it by the pole and the open ground. I like that spacing. The buildings are modest, but the arrangement gives each one a clear shape. In the foreground, low vegetation creates a much softer texture, almost reaching across their lower edges. Above, several layers of cloud fill the sky without hiding the mountain line at the back.
I wanted the photograph to preserve the quiet that drew me to this part of the ghost town. The structures show their wear directly, without needing a close view of every board or broken section. Monochrome connects those surfaces with the ground and sky, while keeping enough contrast for the architecture to remain distinct. This square print brings together rural buildings, railway associations and the open character of the American West. It suits a space where simple forms and weathered subjects can hold attention without strong colour.
