Currie Nevada Store Back Door Black and White Architectural Photography
Weathered Steps Beside License Plates And Loose Wires
The back of this old store in Currie, Nevada, holds a crowded collection of small details. A narrow door and wooden steps occupy the right side, while license plates and metal objects hang on a lower wall to the left. I photographed the scene in 2022, using black and white to bring the weathered surfaces and overlapping lines together.
The main wall rises steeply through the vertical frame. Its pale horizontal boards show cracks, rough edges and areas where the finish has worn away. Above the door, a small pitched canopy projects from the building on angled supports. Loose wires curve across the wall and connect the larger structure to the lower roofs beside it.
The wooden landing and three open steps create a direct route toward the door. Their straight edges stand out against the gravel and sparse plants below. Across the narrow space, the darker plates and hanging objects interrupt another run of timber boards. I enjoy how that improvised grouping adds a different kind of pattern to the regular lines of the siding.
Clouds fill the small area of sky in the upper left, giving the enclosed space an opening beyond the buildings. The photograph is a study of the rear entrance rather than a broad view of the town. Its appeal lies in the details that can be overlooked from the street: worn timber, a modest stairway and objects gathered on a wall. As a print, it offers a textured piece of Nevada architecture with the graphic clarity of monochrome.
