Golden Reflections Shape Glass And Bottle Against Black

This photograph comes from a rare studio series within an archive otherwise dominated by travel, street, landscape, and architectural work. In the studio I could strip away place entirely and work with something more elemental: the shape of a bottle, the curve of a glass, a controlled reflection, and a small amount of warm color against black.

A dark wine bottle occupies the left side of the frame, visible mainly through a fine illuminated edge. On the right, a cropped wine glass holds pale golden wine. The liquid line runs horizontally through the bowl while a broad amber reflection curves downward, echoing the bottle and giving the glass a sculptural quality. That relationship between two simple forms is the reason I see this as still life wall art rather than simply a photograph of a drink.

The image is deliberately incomplete. I do not show the entire bottle, and the wine glass extends beyond the top and right edges of the frame. Those decisions allow the objects to become shapes before they become objects. The surrounding black is equally important. It isolates every reflection and makes the smallest line of light carry visual weight.

I made these studio photographs slowly, adjusting the objects and light until the reflections began to describe the composition on their own. That process was almost the opposite of my travel work, where I usually have to recognize a photograph quickly and respond before the moment changes. Here, the photograph could be built millimeter by millimeter.

Color is essential to this frame. The restrained golden wine gives warmth to an otherwise nearly monochromatic image, while the white edge highlights keep the glass crisp and precise. Converting it to black and white would remove one of the main relationships that gives the photograph its depth.

This image is released as a limited edition of only 10 prints across all sizes. I personally sign every print and include a certificate of authenticity. Archival pigment inks on premium archival paper preserve the contrast between the deep black field, transparent glass, bright specular highlights, and warm wine tones.

The vertical format gives the photograph a clean architectural presence on a wall. It can suit a dining room, wine cellar, kitchen, restaurant, bar, or contemporary interior without relying on the familiar decorative language of grapes, vineyards, labels, or corks. From a distance it reads as a bold arrangement of curves and lines; closer viewing reveals the optical complexity of the glass.

For me, that balance between recognizable subject and near abstraction gives this photograph its place within my wine wall art.
