Chofu Garden Circular Window Black and White Architecture Photography
A Stone Water Basin Beside a Tree and Round Window
Moving slowly through Chofu Garden in Shimonoseki, Japan, I stopped beside this arrangement of a stone water basin, a curving tree, and traditional architecture. The round window behind the basin connected the different forms for me. I photographed the scene in black and white, giving the wood, bark, and rough stone equal attention.
The tree rises close to the left edge and bends toward the building, its textured trunk providing a strong foreground line. Beside it, the rounded basin rests among irregular rocks beneath a wooden railing. The circular window sits higher in the frame, partly crossed by the architecture beyond it. On the right, closely packed vertical material and horizontal supports create a fine pattern across the wall, contrasting with the larger curves of the tree and basin.
I wanted to keep that whole relationship in view rather than isolate one object. The garden encouraged me to slow down and notice how the shapes fitted together, from the uneven rocks at my feet to the roof edge overhead. Soft light held the quieter details without flattening their surfaces. In the finished photograph, my eye moves between the circle in the wall and the rounded stone below it, then follows the tree upward again. The scene has the balance that made me pause during my walk through the grounds.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
