Haliburton Pines With Fresh Snow Black And White Forest Photography
White Snow Tracing Dense Evergreen Branches And Fine Bare Trees
Snow traces the branches of these Haliburton evergreens, making their layered shapes especially clear against the darker needles. I photographed the forest in 2018, drawn to a close view where the trees could fill most of the frame. Their different heights create an uneven skyline, with a taller tree near the middle providing a natural point of focus.
The snow lies in small bands and rounded patches along the branches. Each bright edge reveals a little more of the tree’s structure, while the dark spaces between branches give the forest depth. I like how the individual forms remain visible even when the trees stand so closely together.
Behind the evergreens, bare deciduous branches add a much finer pattern. They rise into the pale sky on the left and around the upper edges, contrasting with the heavier snow-covered shapes in front. That mixture gives the photograph variety within its restrained palette, from delicate lines to broad, textured layers.
Black and white brings those differences together through tone. The brightest snow sits against the deepest foliage, while the more distant branches become softer grey marks. The image offers plenty of detail without needing a distant horizon or a dramatic change in light.
For me, this photograph holds the visual character of a familiar Ontario winter forest. As nature wall art, it suits a cottage, study or bedroom where a detailed woodland scene can invite a slower look. From nearby, the snow-covered branches reveal their small patterns; farther away, the trees become a settled arrangement of dark and light.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
