London Scratched Plaster and Timber Door Black and White Photography
A Dark Timber Panel Within a Wall of Scratched Letters
Scratched letters and overlapping marks cover the pale wall around a dark recessed timber panel in this London photograph. I framed the detail closely in black and white, keeping the shallow arched opening below a broad area of marked plaster. The contrast gives the wooden surface a clear shape within the much denser texture around it.
Some letters are large enough to read as separate forms; others cross, fade, or become part of a finer web of lines. Their depth varies, creating small shadows and brighter edges across the wall. The timber has long worn streaks and two rows of circular holes near its upper portion. A narrow border follows the curve at the top, while the lower sill adds a short horizontal line beneath the panel.
I photographed this while exploring an older residential district on the outskirts of London in 2024. What interested me was the difference between the compact wooden opening and the much larger field of scratched marks. I kept the view direct so neither would be lost within a wider building frontage. Monochrome connects the irregular wall surface to the darker wood while preserving their distinct textures. For me, the photograph is about the visible record held by those surfaces: separate letters, overlapping lines, worn grain, and an opening that gives them a boundary. Looking longer reveals more marks, but the simple dark shape remains a steady place for the eye to return.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
