Hanging Birdcages Above Sydney’s Angel Place | Color Photography
Empty Cages Fill the Space Between Tall City Walls
Looking up through Angel Place in Sydney, I found empty birdcages suspended between the buildings at different heights. This color photograph follows their shapes into the narrow opening above the lane. The red wall on the left and pale architecture on the right give the installation a warm urban setting, while dark cage bases punctuate the space overhead.
The cages vary in size and design. Some have rounded tops; others appear more square, with thin bars defining their outlines. Their arrangement feels scattered at first, but the receding walls bring them into a clear sense of depth. The nearest cages occupy more of the frame, and smaller ones continue down the lane toward the distant building.
I was drawn to that meeting of delicate forms and solid architecture. The cages leave much of the view open, allowing windows, panels, and ledges to remain visible through and around them. Long building lines carry the eye upward, while each suspended shape interrupts their regularity. Color helps separate the walls without taking attention away from the installation.
There is an unusual intimacy in this view of a city. A narrow lane becomes a place to stop and look overhead, with small familiar objects changing the scale of the surrounding buildings. For someone who remembers Angel Place, the photograph may bring back that unexpected pause during a walk through Sydney. I like how the frame preserves the upward glance: the architecture gives it direction, and the empty cages keep offering new shapes to notice.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
