Weathered Iron Pans Bahamas Black and White Still Life Print

Dust and Peeling Paint Surround a Forgotten Kitchen Still Life

An iron pan rests beneath a wall of cracked, peeling paint in this black and white still life from Clarence Town, Bahamas. A small round lid sits inside it, and a broken vessel lies alongside. I found these objects in an abandoned dwelling, where their worn surfaces belonged to the room as much as the damaged wall behind them.

What drew me in was the relationship between the objects and everything around them. The pan’s circular shape interrupts the broad boards crossing the foreground. Its handle reaches toward the left, close to another pot partly hidden in shadow. Dust and fallen fragments cover the surfaces, leaving the kitchenware visible without separating it from the surrounding decay.

I photographed this scene in 2010. In monochrome, the rough wall and the darker pan become the strongest contrasts. Smaller details take longer to emerge: a narrow rim, a split in a board, the irregular outline of the broken vessel. I like that gradual way of seeing. The photograph offers a few familiar forms, then lets the textures carry the rest of the view. It leaves the former household’s story unspoken rather than asking the objects to explain it.

This print can bring a quiet, weathered still life to a kitchen, dining space or study. It may suit someone who enjoys photographs of abandoned interiors, old domestic objects or surfaces marked by use. For me, its appeal is in the ordinary things that remain, and the way light gives their shapes a little definition within a room slowly coming apart.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
