Faded Yellow Panels Between Layers of Green Paint
Faded yellow wooden doors stand between green-painted sections of a weathered Havana facade. An iron gate covers part of one opening, adding straight and diagonal lines beside the worn panels. This colour architectural photograph from Cuba is a close study of paint, wood, and metal sharing the same small stretch of street.
I found the scene while walking through Havana without a fixed plan, the way I often work in a city. The contrast between the door panels and the gate caught my attention first. Their different surfaces show different kinds of wear, yet the repeated openings keep them together as one composition.
The colour is just as important as the texture. Yellow remains in the recessed panels, while green paint breaks into pale patches across the wall. Near the bottom, more of the underlying surface shows through. These changes give the facade depth without requiring a strong cast shadow or an additional subject.
I photographed it in 2017.
Looking closely brings out carved borders, small cracks, ironwork above the doors, and a few trailing leaves at the edge. The image offers a recognizable Havana architectural subject, but its appeal is also tactile: separate materials, each retaining its own character. As a wall print, it combines subdued green and yellow with the layered detail of an old facade, inviting a slower look at what an ordinary doorway can hold.
