Blue Doors and Yellow Walls Along a Cobbled Street
Bright blue doors and barred windows stand against a yellow facade on a cobbled street in Trinidad, Cuba. A wooden cross hangs beneath a wall lantern, and lower houses continue toward distant hills. I photographed this scene while walking through town in 2017, drawn to the strong colour and the everyday details that interrupt it.
The nearest building provides the main structure of the image. Pale decorative trim frames the doorway, blue window bars repeat on either side, and a deep red base runs along the bottom. Those distinct areas of colour make the frontage clear from a distance, while the uneven paint and wood become more apparent closer up.
I included the street as it recedes beside the building. Its rough stones create a different texture from the wall, and the smaller houses carry the colours onward without repeating them exactly. A utility pole and overhead wires remain in the view, keeping the scene connected to daily life rather than presenting the architecture as an isolated display.
The sunlight gives the lantern and cross defined shadows, adding fine lines to the broad yellow surface. What I enjoy is the balance between bold colour and ordinary construction: a striking facade that still belongs to a working street. As a Cuban travel photography print, it offers a lively architectural subject with enough depth and detail to keep the eye moving beyond the first bright impression.
