Old Pressure Cooker Trinidad Cuba Rustic Kitchen Still Life Photography

A Worn Cooking Pot In Soft Kitchen Light

This small pressure cooker caught my attention in Trinidad, Cuba, with its rounded body and distinctive arching clamp above the lid. It sits alone in the foreground on a worn kitchen surface, while darker pans soften into the background. I liked the way the light gave an ordinary piece of cookware such a strong presence.

The surface of the pot is uneven and heavily marked. Its rim, small side handles and central screw catch little highlights, making the shape easy to follow against the quieter tones behind it. Nothing here needs to be polished to be interesting. The rough metal and the scratched counter give the photograph much of its character.

I kept the focus on the cooker, allowing the farther utensils and the pale wall to fall away gently. That separation creates a still life with depth rather than a flat record of kitchen objects. Warm, subdued tones bring the parts together, and the diagonal edge of the counter guides the eye back towards the pot.

When I photographed it in 2017, I was interested in the visual life of something practical. Its precise history is outside the frame, but its form and wear are there to look at. As a kitchen or dining room print, it offers an understated subject with plenty of texture. It also suits a cafe or a collection of still life photographs where simple objects are allowed to hold attention on their own.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
