Sunlit Havana Balconies and Hanging Laundry Wall Art
Everyday Colour Along a Row of Weathered Facades
I loved walking through Havana, where friendly encounters and extraordinary architecture made the streets a pleasure to explore. Late in the day, sunlight moved across these facades at an angle, catching the laundry hanging from balconies above the pavement. I made this colour photograph in 2017, drawn to the whole arrangement rather than a single landmark.
The pale yellow building nearest the camera gives way to pink, blue, green, and orange farther along the street. Worn plaster and faded paint sit beside ornate ironwork, barred doors, and narrow shutters. The warm light makes those details clear without smoothing away the signs of everyday use.
Above them, clothes hang at different lengths from the balcony railings. Blue fabric, pale garments, and smaller colour accents interrupt the repeated lines of the architecture. I like how they create a second rhythm above the street, connecting the buildings to the lives inside them.
The quiet roadway gives the lower part of the image some breathing room. From there, the eye can move up through the doorways and balconies, then along the narrowing row of facades toward the brighter distance. A small opening of clouded blue sky completes the view.
This print holds the warmth and detail that made Havana so rewarding to photograph. Its appeal lies in the combination of colour, architecture, and ordinary activity, making it a natural choice for someone who enjoys travel scenes with a lived-in character.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
