Repeating Facade Lines Draw the Eye Into Darkness

A building can become a pattern before it becomes a place. In this black and white photograph of New York’s World Trade Center, I look upward along the illuminated facade, following rows of projecting architectural elements as they narrow toward the top of the frame. The city around it falls away, leaving a tightly ordered arrangement of light, shadow, and perspective.

The lower edge is full of detail. Bright horizontal bands cross long vertical channels, while angled surfaces create a succession of dark wedges. Those forms repeat across the width of the image, but they do not look identical: the upward view changes their apparent size, and the light gives each surface a slightly different tone. I like the way that variation keeps the repetition alive.

Farther up, the same lines grow smaller and merge into a darker, denser texture. There is no broad skyline to establish scale. Instead, the photograph asks you to read the building through the movement of its surface, from the bold foreground geometry to the compressed distance.

My monochrome treatment makes those relationships the subject. The silver highlights and deep blacks give the architecture a strong graphic presence, while the finer grey tones preserve the physical texture of the facade. It is a New York architectural photograph that rewards both a quick glance at its overall rhythm and a closer look at the individual shapes.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
