Palm Trees and Mandalay Bay Reflected in Blue Glass

The palm trees appear to lean across a blue surface, their dark reflections crossing the glass-panel lines. I photographed this detail of the Luxor in Las Vegas early one morning in 2012, with Mandalay Bay visible near the edge of the view. The colour image makes the reflective facade, rather than the whole hotel, its main subject.

The sloping glass gives the composition a strong diagonal. Panel seams create smaller geometric divisions, while the reflected trunks and fronds introduce more irregular shapes. Clear sky occupies the upper left, linking its blue colour with the building’s surface. A warmer section of the neighbouring hotel adds a small contrast to that cool palette.

I like how a reflection can change a familiar place into something less expected. The palms remain recognisable, but their position on the glass makes them part of the architecture’s pattern. The viewpoint lets the building act as both a structure and a surface that gathers the scene around it.

This photograph holds a quieter side of Las Vegas than a broad night view of the Strip. The early light, clean blue sky and close framing bring attention to colour and shape. As wall art, it can appeal to someone interested in modern architecture, urban reflections or travel photography with a more abstract composition. Its blue tones offer a clear visual accent, while the palm silhouettes give the image a natural counterpoint to the straight lines of the glass.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
